General Rules

  • Highland dress and marching are encouraged but not required.
  • Piobaireachd events: You must email us the sheet music for your tune if your setting is not from the Kilberry or Piobaireachd Society books (nescartsvirtual@gmail.com). Include your name and grade level in the file name. Please email your sheet music WITH your video links in order to keep everything together (see below).
  • Drumming events require accompaniment, which can be a live piper or a recording. Recordings may be of a piper playing Highland bagpipes, electronic pipes, or practice chanter. If the roll-off command is not audible on the recorded accompaniment used, it is permissible for the competitor to listen to the first roll of the roll-off and only play the second roll of the roll-off.
  • Tenor and bass drummers may compete with a side drummer, but it is not required.
  • Snare drummers are permitted to use either a drum or a drum pad.
  • Tenor and bass drummers are permitted to use a drum, a drum pad, or a hard surface.
